the rise of the "mock" on line exam.......

 

OK...lets start with a reminder of the actual definition of the word "mock" and then we will apply this definition to the rise of the 17th  edition mock exam........

• If used in the context of verb

      Mock means to tease or laugh at, in a scornful or contemptuous manner.
 

• if used in the context of an adjective

     Mock means that is isn't authentic or real, but is without the intention to deceive.
 

• If used in the context of a noun

     Mock means that is is an object of derision.


Now then I hear you all say...what on earth has this got to do with the 17th edition and it's relationship to the electric qualifications that we and others deliver.....

Well, prompted by some casual "surfing" on the interweb today, I was confronted by a lot of websites, some of these websites proclaiming things like "I decided not to include an automatic timer because if you can’t work how to time yourself when doing a mock exam, you’re hardly going to be a competent electrician are you?"......and "This is a mock exam for the 17th edition (C&G 2382) exam. All the questions are from past exam papers. In order to simulate the exam conditions we recommend using a stopwatch set to two hour."...(they forgot to put an "s"!!)

Why all the concern about mock exams?

Because these 17th edition mock exams that are springing up all over the internet  are simply not the real deal!! Moreover, the answers to some of the questions are actually wrong!!....and if that wasn't all, one of the real issues here is that some of you that have attempted to sit an exam at a centre without completing the full course may well be seriously disadvantaged which may result in a poor  level of understanding of the "regs" plus you may well fail the real exam....and ask yourself the question, would you ask a paramedic to sit an exam after taking a mock test.......oh and by the way, he's then asked to do a resuscitation as part of his exam - doesn't even bear thinking about....

 

Don't fail....pass with us

So why oh why take the risk with your profession, yes profession and entrust it to a "mock exam.....yes, you are right, it is silly!!
