Asking any electrician what their salary is or what their day rate is like lighting the blue touch paper.

What amazes me is that there are websites out there that make all sorts of claims to be “in the know” and in one case, they even quote official statistics and results of their own survey.

You know and I also know that is more, much more to what constitutes a reasonable salary or a day rate. OK….we can all have a go at calculating on costs if you are operating your own business, or by looking at job adverts on the internet……. All very anecdotal and unlikely to be able to to help you,; sorry!!

What will influence your rate of pay or what you can charge, without any doubt is a combination of factors: the excellent customer service, you provide, the intricate jobs that you have completed, the customer testimonials (real ones!!) and positioning yourself as the best and most knowledgeable electrician in your area. In addition, if you can achieve what I call “repeatable performance” ….that is customers who call you, only you because they trust you to do the job….well to coin a phrase, “that’s the litmus test”

And my point?......well you must invest in training, you must invest in acquiring new skills. Take the proactive view that “all round development” are absolutely vital in any company or organisation, no matter if it’s just you or it’s for a large company.

Exercise and really stretch yourself and become the best at what you do…..and along the way, remember, Total Electrical Training is your training provider bar none!
